Now that everyone's had a chance to settle it, it's as good a time as any to announce assignments. I won't do this every time, but occasionally I'll be the one making announcements on behalf of the governors.

[A beat.]

I should probably introduce myself.

My name is Sarah Harding. I've been here about six months. Until recently, I taught Wilderness Survival, but I've been reassigned, myself. We have a surplus of Fatemarked and not enough Sentinels to go around, so every hand's on deck.

I encourage all of you to introduce yourselves if you haven't yet, particularly to the people to whom you've been assigned. Here goes nothing:

Cissie King-Jones, I'm assigned to you. Let me know, we can meet up and talk.

Tony Stark, you're with Gene Khan.

Jack Metcalfe, Daniel Kinney.

Martha Jones, looks like you were specifically requested by Severus Snape.

Chase Collins, you're with Alex Marsters.

Malcolm Ducasse is with Brigid Finn.

[She falters over the next name.]

Ru- [...] Rumpelstiltskin - Really? - you're with O'danyu Mitnu. Did I say that right?

...Right.

Lastly, Tim Drake and Seraphina Mirandir.

I think that's everyone. If you have any questions about the assignments or the Facility, I can try to answer them.

Ahh. I didn't know--well, I guess there's a lot about this place I don't know yet.

As for me... I'm pretty sure they've made a mistake?

[This isn't a new claim to Sarah; most Fatemarked come in thinking a mistake has been made.]

It's probably best if you accept it now that the Facility doesn't make mistakes. If you have a symbol on your hand, you're Fatemarked. It doesn't mean you're weak or less, it just means there's something special about you, something the Trust-

[She falters. Is she supposed to tell people about the Trust?]

It's not a mistake.

[Oho, Sarah, I'm sorry but your fatemarked is a stubborn little girl.]

Okay, I'm just going to point out that, uh, blindly assuming that my kidnappers know what they're doing and really honestly kidnapped me for my own good? It's not exactly comforting.

What's the Trust?

[Sarah considers whether to be forthcoming for a moment longer before finally relenting.]

The Trust are our problem. They're an organization out to get people like you. They've been at it for a long time, and they've begun developing weapons to incapacitate Fatemarked. That's the point of this whole project: bring in protection for you that doesn't succumb to their technology.

People like me.

[There's a bit of a long pause before Cissie says anything, while she tries to wrap her head around this, and try to be appreciative that Sarah's actually answering her and not just brushing her off.]

So is it like... metas--uh, people with special powers--protecting people without them? Basically?

[She knows everyone here is from different worlds. She knows they're not all like hers, but metas are a known thing at home (metas and aliens and clones, oh my), and reframing the situation in a way she's familiar with is her best bet at making sense of this and her role in it.]

It's not exactly like that. We don't have a superpower; it's just an immunity. In some cases, constant exposure can weaken that immunity in Sentinels, or strengthen it in Fatemarked.

But - I think you do get the gist of it.

[There's another pause as she takes all of this in, and then she lets out a big sigh.]

Well. This sucks.

It does. I'm sorry.

I'll do what I can to keep you alive, if that makes you feel any better.

[...Sorry Sarah. It doesn't. Not yet anyway.]
